Grade 6 Basketball Unit. This website offers four sequenced lesson plans useful for a Basketball unit at the Grade 6 level. The following lessons have been used in a Grade 6 Physical Education class with great success. It is our hope that teachers will find these lessons useful and be able to implement them in their future classes.
Basketball. Objective: Students will understand and be able to demonstrate the rules and skills needed for an organized basketball game. The skills will include: dribbling, shooting, passing, lay-ups, and game play. Assessment: Peer skill rubric and a written quiz.
Basketball Unit Goals and Objectives Kindergarten: Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to: 1. Accurately pass a ball to a partner using a bounce pass. 2. Catch a bounce pass from a partner 50% of the time. 3. Dribble a basketball with the fingertips maintaining basic control.
After teaching the ball handling drills during the first lesson, we begin the following lessons of our unit by doing a quick warmup for about 3-4 minutes of Follow the Leader and ask students to work on keeping their eyes up and trying to copy the ball handling moves that the teacher is doing without looking at the ball.
